Ventilation

Why condensation keeps coming back (and what actually fixes it)

Wiping windows every morning isn't a ventilation strategy. Here's what's actually causing the moisture and how to deal with it properly.

If you wake up to streaming windows most winter mornings, your home is telling you something: more moisture is going in than is coming out.

Where the water comes from

A typical family of four adds 8-15 litres of water vapour to the air every day - from showering, cooking, breathing, drying laundry, and even pot plants. Modern homes are built tight to keep heat in, which also keeps moisture trapped inside.

Why DIY fixes don't last

Cracking a window helps a little, but you also lose a lot of heat. Portable dehumidifiers help in one room but can't keep up with the whole home and add to your power bill. Bathroom fans help if they actually vent to the outside and run long enough - most don't.

The real fix is a balanced ventilation strategy: enough fresh, drier air coming in, and enough moisture-laden air being extracted out, continuously and quietly.

What good ventilation looks like

A well-designed system runs in the background, exchanges air at the right rate for your home, and tempers the incoming air so it doesn't make the house cold. Once it's installed, you stop wiping windows and start forgetting it's there.
